Position Summary: IdahoSTARS is a statewide program funded by the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare-Block Grant. It is designed to assist parents by offering child care referrals and information about quality child care settings, as well as to assist child care providers with a variety of professional development opportunities and resources.
The IdahoSTARS Child Care Health Consultant position promotes healthy and safe child care by assisting with program policy development and implementation of quality health, safety, and nutrition practices in early care and education settings. This position provides coaching, training, and resources to child care directors and providers, families, and regional and statewide partners.
Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare field or four years’ experience in fields such as pediatric nursing, community health nursing, or health educators may substitute for a Bachelor’s Degree
- Working on an interdisciplinary team
- Developing and implementing health and safety policies
- Conducting adult workshops and/or providing training (small and large groups)
- Working in child and community health
Preferred Qualifications: Education and training: - Licensed health professional
- Endorsement in Early Childhood Mental Health
- Specialized training in child care health consulting
Knowledge of:
- Early child care and education
- Health and safety standards in child care
- Injury prevention for children
- Oral health of children
- Children with special health care needs in child care settings
- Safe medication administration
- Safe sleep practices and policies
- Immunization schedules for children
- Developmental screening tools and procedures for use
Ability to:
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Interact and communicate with others effectively
- Use correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar in composing written statements
- Manage a variety of projects simultaneously
- Portray a professional demeanor
- Understand written and spoken English and Spanish languages (FSI-ILR Level 3)
