Responsibilities:

The mission of the Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics is to promote biomedical discoveries and translational medicine through excellence in research, education, and community service. The Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics at UCI School of Medicine is at the forefront of the new and exciting discoveries being made in modern microbiology and molecular genetics. We are a vibrant community of scientific investigators actively engaged in innovative research, discovery, training and teaching in microbiology and molecular genetics. We provide faculty research, training programs for undergraduate and graduate students and outreach functions as part of the mission of UC Irvine's School of Medicine.
The laboratory is specialized in mouse genetics having a long-standing interest for unraveling the mechanisms by which dopamine controls nervous system functions related to locomotion, reward, social behavior and learning and memory. We analyze the behavioral features of mice with genetic manipulations of the genome enabling the study of human neurological and psychiatric disorders.

Under direct supervision, performs procedures in support of ongoing research activities in a laboratory setting. Also responsible for keeping laboratory facilities clean, sanitary, and stocked.

Qualifications:
  • Understanding of common laboratory terms Required
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions Required
  • Basic microscopy and software Preferred
  • Laboratory animal experience Preferred
  • Laboratory experience Preferred
  • Preparing solutions, pipetting and performing PCR Required

Preferred:

  • BS
  • 1-3 years Experience in a laboratory setting
