The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and the Department of Psychology at the University of Michigan invite applications for a Lecturer position at 33.33% effort for the Fall Term 2024. This appointment is scheduled to begin on [August 26, 2024] and end on [December 18, 2024].
Duties of these Lecturer positions are expected to include teaching, developing course materials, evaluating, and grading students, and holding regularly scheduled office hours. A typical full-time (100% effort) load for a Lecturer in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts is three courses per semester. Full-time and part-time positions are available.

Stigma and Social Contexts
Course Objectives:
This course will explore themes and theories underlying social stereotyping and prejudicial attitudes with a primary emphasis on the consequences that stereotypes, and prejudice have for those who are targeted. Theory and research reviewed will be drawn from decades of study within the field of social psychology and will be applied to a variety of populations (e.g., race or ethnicity, gender, sexual identity) with implications for a broad range of settings (e.g., educational, organizational, clinical). Students will learn to evaluate research and apply critical thinking to current topics in a variety of areas including: the function and nature of stigma; the cognitive, emotional, and health consequences; coping with stigma; and the role of stigma in social interactions.
The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in psychology, or a closely related field. The candidate must have demonstrated excellence in college-level teaching in the United States.
The selection criteria used for this search is based on how the applicant?s education and experience meets the required minimum qualifications for the position. Excellence in teaching and instruction will be the principal criteria used to select the successful candidate.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching the psychology of stereotypes and social context.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
