Job Description

We’re looking for a part-time ice cream maker to join our Humble Production Crew. This person will make batches of our homemade ice cream, cookies and cakes. They will work alongside our lead Ice Cream maker who manages the production schedule. We are looking for someone with food production experience (baking, cooking, etc.) in a commercial kitchen. Your day to day activities will include prepping ingredients, mixing ice cream, mixing batches of cookies, decorating cakes, packaging items you create, cleaning and sanitizing equipment and the kitchen space. This is a very physical job- it requires standing and moving during your entire shift, lifting 30 lb boxes and tubs of ice cream and 50 lb bags of sugar, and working in a commercial freezer to transfer buckets of ice cream and rotate stock.

If you’re a highly productive person who like a fast pace, can multitask, plan ahead, and follow recipes precisely this may be a great job for you. Ice cream is a highly seasonal business so you must be comfortable with hours that fluctuate lower in the winter and higher in the summer. We have a lot of flexibility in the days and times you would work so this is a great job for someone juggling school or other commitments. We would like a minimum of 2 year commitment due the large amount of training involved.

Skills

• Ability to follow recipes precisely, measure ingredients accurately and perform measurement conversions
• Work well independently but are not afraid to ask questions when in need of help
• Attention to detail- recipes must be followed precisely and you must notice details about the ice cream consistency and texture to ensure it is made correctly
• Understand the importance of cleanliness, sanitary practices and food safety
• A happy and humble attitude- work well with others and are excited to be part of the team
• Self disciplined- You’ll work independently and must manage your time well
• Responsible- you’ll be making the product we sell to our customers, that we put the Humble Cow name on so it’s important that you take it seriously
• Ability to stand for up to 6 hours and lift up to 50 pounds- this is a very physical job and you must be able to keep up with the demands safely

Background/Experience

• Experience in a commercial kitchen
• Culinary experience or training a plus
• Ice cream making experience a plus, but not required- we’ll teach you how to use the equipment and how to make the ice cream

Duties will include

• Making batches of ice cream following a recipe precisely
• Rotating buckets of ice cream between freezers
• Prepping ice cream ingredients- chopping, freezing, etc.
• Cleaning and sanitizing the ice cream maker between batches
• Washing dishes used to make batches of ice cream
• Cleaning the kitchen facility
• Communication with the owner about ice cream inventory

Hours & Pay

• 20-25 hours per week during spring/summer, 10-20 hours per week during fall/winter- flexible days and times
• $20-$25/hour
