Summary of Job Duties:

The Postdoctoral Fellow will play a pivotal role in advancing the research agenda in the Arkansas Health Equity and Access Lab (HEAL), including the Arkansas Health Survey. The specific expectations for the fellow are as follows:


1. Independent Research: Conduct rigorous independent research focusing on social determinants of health, aiming to generate insights that can influence policy and practice.
2. Research Support: Assist in crafting research proposals and contribute to all phases of research execution, from data collection through to analysis, ensuring high standards of accuracy and relevance.
3. Scholarly Communication: Prepare and submit manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, ensuring that findings are communicated effectively to the academic community and beyond.
4. Community Engagement: Actively engage with diverse community stakeholders to both gather insights and disseminate research findings, thereby aligning research objectives with community needs.
5. Mentorship: Provide mentorship to graduate students, guiding them in their academic and professional development, and fostering a supportive learning environment within the lab.


These responsibilities are designed to leverage the fellow's expertise while contributing to their professional growth and the lab's mission to address health disparities. The postdoctoral scholar will be advised by Michael Nino, PhD, Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology & Criminology and Director of the Arkansas HEAL.


Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Sociology or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Survey Expertise: Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing surveys, coupled with robust skills in data collection methodologies, ensuring the acquisition of high-quality data critical for impactful research

  • Focused Research in Social Determinants of Health: A well-articulated research agenda concentrating on the social determinants of health, showcasing a deep understanding of how societal structures and conditions impact health outcomes

  • Social Demography Proficiency: A strong background in social demography, with a comprehensive grasp of demographic methods and analyses, enabling the fellow to contribute nuanced insights into population studies and health disparities
